On a warm morning John Hyde and Frank Kilsby (both VC St Raphael) drove up to Dunsfold for a Surrey League 3rd cat race round Dunsfolds pretty flat course, although it has to be said it can appear not too flat as some of the drags come off sharp slow junctions. Both John and Frank had their pre race warmup and chat and agreed tatics the race, or for the first two laps at least.

John had picked out a few riders who he thought would prove quite strong along with keeping an eager eye on any teams which went up the road...as this would be crucial to the events outcome.
The first lap was fast and nothing stuck. It was not until about 3 laps in that a move went off the front, which looked like it would stick. However a rider from the Army CU got on the front of the bunch and dragged the break back. Shortly after another group went away and the bunch took it easy never letting them gain more than a minute, then with 4 laps of the Dunsfold circuit to go the break was brought back. This was the point that if you were going to go you had to go.....Well, John was struggling a bit as this was his first road race of the 2015 so remained in the bunch as another break went up the road. The break stayed away to the finish so the bunch was sprinting for 7th place. Frank was well placed leading into the final corner, but got hampered by some traffic, John came home in the bunch happy to be finishing his first event this year. The results showed Frank and John coming in equal 18th.....a fair days racing consdering the speed and constant attacking that was happening throughout.
Many thanks John for this report
